5. Identification of specific sequence motifs

Introduction

Various bioinformatic tools enable analysis of nucleic acid sequences and so faciliate identification of specific signals, motifs and sequences within them, e.g.:
  • promoters
  • terminators
  • RBSs
  • splicing sites
  • START a STOP codons
  • polyA signals
  • restriction sites
  • coding sequences

Task no. 1

Identify cleavage sites for restriction endonucleases EcoRI and EcoRV in EMBL entry AJ238043 using tool Restrict. Then try to find out:
  1. number and position of restriction sites for individual restriction endonucleases
  2. number and length of frangments at simultaneous cleavage with both endonucleases
  3. what kind of ends are produced after cleavage with these endonucleases
  4. what are the source organisms for these endonucleases
