Introduction Secondary databases comprise information about sequences from primary databases. This is particularly related to protein sequences. Examples of secondary databases: - PROSITE – database of protein domains and families (sequence motifs)
- PRINTS – database of protein families (sequence fingerprints)
- Pfam – database of protein domains and families (HMM profiles)
Task no. 1 In the PROSITE database search out ribosomal protein L1 and try to find out: - what is the length of the sequence motif characteristic for this protein (number of AA)
- how many ribosomal proteins do comprise this motif
- how many ribosomal proteins L1 do not comprise this motif
- at least one organism, for which 3D structure of this protein was determined
- what is the biological function of this protein
